In a major upset of the day, Karnataka girls beat defending champions Delhi 69-61, to enter the semifinals of the ongoing 60th junior national basketball championships being played here at Indore.
In the quarterfinal match today, spirited Karnataka girls played their heart out in the contest and fought for each and every point to emerge winner.
Eventual winners took control of the match from the word ‘go’ and raced to 13 points lead in the first quarter (20-7).
Sustain efforts in the remaining period of the game helped Karnataka girls thwart Delhi plans to advance in the meet.
The lost ground, however, proved too costly for Delhi as they weren
now have to play for lower positions in the tournament, while Karnataka will face Kerala in the semis who beat Madhya Pradesh 81-58.
For Karnataka Navneetha PU (27) and Sandhya M (13) were the main scorers.
Sonika Ohlyan netted 24 points for Delhi.
In another quarterfinal match Tamil Nadu outplayed Maharashtra 79-56, to remain in contention for the title. Eventual winners were leading 33-23 at the break.
Tamil Nadu will now face Chattisgarh in the semis tomorrow. Chattisgarh in its quarterfinal match today beat Andhra Pradesh 116-49.
Chattisgarh dominated the match and were leading by huge margin 68-30 at the break.
In the boys quarterfinals, Punjab outplayed Uttar Pradesh 106-76, while Chattisgarh defeated Karnataka 73-44.
In the semis, Punjab will face Delhi who defeated Kerala 106-84, in the quarters today.
