Delhi’s International cager Sonika Ohlyan led from the front to help her team enter the girls quarterfinals in the ongoing 60th Junior National basketball championships being played here at Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
Sonika who netted 21 points helped Delhi beat Maharashtra 77-61, to top Group A and book a berth in the last eight stage of the tournament. Delhi’s rival in the quarter’s to begin from tomorrow, will be Punjab.
By virtue of being at the second spot in Group A, Maharashtra has also made it to the last eight stage of the meet, and will face Tamil Nadu tomorrow.
In today’s match, Sonika and Neharika Khurana combined well to give Delhi a commanding lead at the break (46-24).
Maharashtra though made its presence felt in the next two quarters, but eventual winners were able to sustain its initial lead.
Neharika also contributed 17 points to the team’s total.
Amrita (17) and Sneha Rajguru (15) were the main scorer for losers.
In another match, Chattisgarh outplayed Kerala 91-88 to reach the quarters. Eventual winners were leading 49-33, at the break. With today’s win Chattisgarh has topped Group B, while Kerala is placed at the second spot.
Chattisgarh in their next match face Uttar Pradesh, while Kerala take on Madhya Pradesh.
In the boys group, Tamil Nadu beat Punjab 79-56, while Chattisgarh defeated Haryana 78-41.
Both Chattisgarh and Haryana have made it to the last eight stage of the meet.
